On the TLDHS project for the USMC, we urged the Program to include a checksum on critical target location data stored in the system’s database. Although the software developers didn’t want the extra work, our arguments prevailed.
Years later we heard of an unexpected error, which some didn’t understand. It was our checksum test, which correctly prevented the use of corrupted critical data!
Our safety feature, which some argued against, had proved itself to be very helpful, indeed!
